10/16 Rec Practices Cancelled

We are canceling rec soccer activities for this evening (10/16) due to the weather and field conditions.
If you have an older child playing on a travel team, please consult their coach for the status of their practice this evening.

Countdown to Fall 2019 Rec Tournament

Our U9 tournament will be here before you know it.  This season’s U9 tournament will take place at Oct 26th for our five U9 teams.  It will be a double elimination tournament and will start at 9am.  We will only be playing 15 minute halves with a 5 min halftime, opposed to our current 25 minute halves, so the games will be faster.  We will try to give a 10-15 minute break between games so players have a chance to rest between any back to back games.
Some key takeaways:
  • 1st Place team will receive a special medal.  All other teams will receive a more generic medal.
  • I’m working on getting a food truck here again this season.  No luck at this point.
  • I’m currently working on different options for games being reffed by someone other than the coaches of the teams playing.  One will probably be me, but I will be looking for another.
  • If Oct 26th gets rained out, we’ll not be making it up as our lease of the fields ends the end of October.
This should be a very enjoyable morning for our U9 players and families.  We received great feedback from the previous two season’s tournament and we hope to have the same great experience.
A morning schedule and bracket will be sent out closer to tournament day.

Field Layout & Player / Spectator designated areas

This email contains information about field layout, player benches during game play, and explanation.
This is the general layout of the soccer complex for this Fall soccer season.  For games we will be utilizing U7 Field 1, U7 Field 2, and U9 Game Field.  This is reflected on your game schedule.
The player benches will be placed between the fields being utilized for games, shown in GREENParents, spectators, etc should not be within this area during games.  Parents/spectators should be watching and cheering from the areas laid out in RED.
Explanation:  We need to keep the players separated from the spectators during game play for the following reasons.
  1. Most importantly, CPYSL (our governing entity) is requiring separation between players and spectators on all levels of play.
  2. It keeps the players contained to one location and is easier for the coach to locate them.  Players should not be encouraged to freely run to parents during game time.  Please tell your child to ask the coach to go see parents prior to doing so.  This allows the coach to know where your child is.
  3. Keeping spectators and players separated ensures players aren’t around those who are not to have contact with children, ie. predators.
For the above reasons, no one without proper clearances on file with BSYSA will be allowed to be at the player benches during game play.

BSYSA Monthly Board Meetings

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Board members meet the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM at the Big Spring Middle School cafeteria.  The change in venue is due to the fact that in the Fall, it gets darker around the same time as our meetings.   West Pennsboro Park closes their gates at dusk. 

If there are practices or games that day and are rained out, meetings will be at 7 PM.  

This is subject to change depending on availability or holidays.  Changes will be made to the Events Calendar if needed.

Fall Picture & Fundraiser Information

Picture packets will be handed out @ practices @ West Pennsboro field the week of Sept 9th.
Pictures are scheduled for ALL teams Sept 11th & 12th @ 5:30 at West Pennsboro fields. Rain dates will be Sept 17th & 18th @ 5:30.

Meat Stick Fundraiser packets will be handed out the week of Sept 9th during practices at West Pennsboro.
Fundraiser packets will be collected Oct 1st & 2nd so the order may be placed within the following week.

Delivery will be at the West Pennsboro Pavilion Starting on Oct 21st through Thurs Oct 24. Last chance will be at the park during our Fall Tournament on Oct 26th.
